Sunday Meet and Greet

Happy Sunday! I've been really awful at posting on the weekends, so I wrote this Friday afternoon and scheduled it for Sunday, which is today, I guess. When you're reading it. But it's actually two days from now, when I'm writing it. This is freaking me out. Can I tell the future now? Anyway, I'm not sure I trust this whole scheduling thing and I thought this might be a post to test it out on. Wow. Ending a sentence on two prepositions. I'm going to glide on over to the next paragraph and pretend I didn't just do that.

I know I did this a while back, but I feel like I have a whole different set of readers (but a very grateful shout out to those who have been here forever!). So today, I'm going to ask you some questions to get to know you all. Then you get to ask me questions in return. It's as simple as that. Ready? Set? Go.

1. Are you married or single? Or even trying to be married or trying to be single?

2. Do you have children? If not, are you planning to? If yes, how many do you have and do you ever want to give one or more of them away? (I may or may not be in the market)

3. What is your favorite day of the week?

4. Tell me one obscure thing about you--something that makes you unique or special or different or weird.

5. If you could change one small thing abut the world, what is it and why? Not like "world peace" or anything. More like "I wish every body always brushed their teeth" or "I would eliminate all dryer lint."

6. Who is your favorite blogger? (I'm not fishing for compliments here, I'm looking for new material and/or getting to know your taste) Also, do you blog and am I reading you? Because I should be.

7. Tell me your BEST childhood memory. OR? Tell me your EARLIEST childhood memory. Or both.

8. Do you tweet? Do I follow you? Do you follow me?

9. What do you value most? This is vague on purpose.

10. When you fold your hands, which thumb is closest to you, left or right?

So answer as many (all, none (except not none because that's not fun at all!), some, one) as you feel like answering. Then ask whatever you feel like asking (just remember my rules). Have you always wondered what shampoo I use? That would be a little weird, but I'd tell you (Dove). Do you want to know more about Satan's Cat? I've got stories, let me tell you. Are you interested in my views on pharmaceutical companies? I don't really have any, but I'd make some up for you!

So go answer! Then ask!

  1. 1. Are you married or single? Or even trying to be married or trying to be single?
Single, in a relationship, waiting for him to propose.

    2. Do you have children? If not, are you planning to? If yes, how many do you have and do you ever want to give one or more of them away? (I may or may not be in the market)
No, in a few (read: 7) years.

    3. What is your favorite day of the week?
Definitely Wednesday. It means the work week is half over, and you are closer to the weekend. I am not sure if that will change, since I work for McDonald's and I no longer have a 9-5 M-F job.

    4. Tell me one obscure thing about you--something that makes you unique or special or different or weird.
I rub my nose. A LOT. And I snort when something is really funny.

    5. If you could change one small thing abut the world, what is it and why? Not like "world peace" or anything. More like "I wish every body always brushed their teeth" or "I would eliminate all dryer lint."
I wish more people didn't start rumors. Life is so much easier and stress free when no gossip is around.

    6. Who is your favorite blogger? (I'm not fishing for compliments here, I'm looking for new material and/or getting to know your taste) Also, do you blog and am I reading you? Because I should be.
I like reading you, and I was a fan of TJ. But This Is Not That Blog is probably the best I have read in a LONG while. You are always allowed to steal my material!

    7. Tell me your BEST childhood memory. OR? Tell me your EARLIEST childhood memory. Or both.
Best: when my mom got remarried. I don't even remember most of it. It just made me happy with how happy she was.
Earliest: when my biological father tried starting a fight with my father, and lost. And I was scared, but now I laugh when I think about it.

    8. Do you tweet? Do I follow you? Do you follow me?
No, Maybe a little, and yes.

    9. What do you value most? This is vague on purpose.
I value relationships most. My family, my boyfriend, my friendships. If I consider you a friend, you have me til the end.

    10. When you fold your hands, which thumb is closest to you, left or right?

  2. It's not Sunday but I'm in NZ so I'm kind of a day ahead or behind, or something like that.

    1. I am married - 5.5 years

    2. No kids, they are kind of planned but we're just not ready yet. Though I feel the pressure of age butting heads with the not being ready.

    3. My favourite day is Saturday, no work and no work the next day. It's bliss

    4. I believe my cat is just waiting for the day when she can eat us, she likes to lick and we're pretty sure she's tasting to see if we are ready yet.

    5. I would stop people from dressing up their dogs. It's just not right.

    6. My favourite blogger is TJ - sorry. I don't have a blog of my own.

    7. I don't know if it's my earliest but I remember hiding from my dad's friend because he would always throw me into the air and catch me. But I never thought he would catch me, so I would hide or hold onto things desperately so he couldn't pick me up.

    8. No I don't tweet.

    9. I value my beliefs, and freedom, and health, and family and lot's of things. I don't think I can pick one.

    10. My left thumb.

I would like more stories about Satan's cat.

  3. 1. Are you married or single? Or even trying to be married or trying to be single?
In a relationship, but not married (still in High School) :P

    2. Do you have children? If not, are you planning to? If yes, how many do you have and do you ever want to give one or more of them away? (I may or may not be in the market)
No children, and not planning on having any for a looong time.

    3. What is your favorite day of the week?
    Friday, no contest.

    4. Tell me one obscure thing about you--something that makes you unique or special or different or weird.
Sometimes I have conversations in my head with someone, but then I will accidentally reply out loud.

    5. If you could change one small thing abut the world, what is it and why? Not like "world peace" or anything. More like "I wish every body always brushed their teeth" or "I would eliminate all dryer lint."
    I would fix everyone's grammar.

    6. Who is your favorite blogger? (I'm not fishing for compliments here, I'm looking for new material and/or getting to know your taste) Also, do you blog and am I reading you? Because I should be.
Jen from EPBOT is my favorite :) I blog on and off on various blogs and always quit after a couple posts. Right now I haven't been blogging at all.

    7. Tell me your BEST childhood memory. OR? Tell me your EARLIEST childhood memory. Or both.
One of my favorite childhood memories is when my family went to disney world in '04. On our last night there, we took the ferry back when we were exiting the park. I was clutching my new Jessie (from Toy Story) doll, watching the lights disappear over the horizon.

    8. Do you tweet? Do I follow you? Do you follow me?
Used to, but gradually just stopped logging in. Don't worry, I didn't have any followers to abandon :P

    9. What do you value most? This is vague on purpose.
    The people I love.

    10. When you fold your hands, which thumb is closest to you, left or right?
    Left.

My question for you: What is your favorite smell?

  4. OK. You probably already know most of my answers, but I answer anyway.

    1. Married, 33 years. Man, I'm old.
    2. Four and you are one of them.
    3. Probably Saturday. Only day I can even think about "sleeping in".
    4. After I eat eggs of any kind (particularly scrambled), I crave chocolate.
    5. I wish people wouldn't use the word "like" every three words in their sentences. Like, you know, like when they try to like explain something to you and like thay are having like a little trouble like finding a way to tell you like what they mean....
    6. You
    7. Being in my crib and my big sister lifting me out to go watch Saturday morning cartoons. I liked Saturdays even then.
    8. No. No one. Not on tweet.
    9. My marriage.
    10. Right.

My question for you: What do you want for Christmas?

    1. I'm married but...umm...not to the guy I'm living with, so I guess I'm trying to be single, and then I'll be trying to be married.

    2. 15 year old twin daughters. I love them, and I will keep them. There won't be any more :-)

    3. Friday. Even though I'm currently unemployed, I still look forward to the start of the weekend.

    4. In supermarkets, I sometimes dance to the music in my head.

    5. I wish people would smile at each other as they pass on the street.

    6. I have loads. If I had to pick just one that I think you would like, I'd say Berry's musings. Yes I blog. I don't think you're following me but that's okay, I'm not funny like you :-)

    7. I'll skip this one.

    8. I don't tweet.

    9. My man and my girlies.

    10. Left.

Please can we have a guest post from your Mum? :-)

  6. 1) Single, would like to be in a relationship/married if I can get past the anxiety that comes with a new relationship, and if I can find somebody who isn't a pot dealer.

    2) I would like kids eventually. Maybe five, I don't know if I want to shoot them out of my body though. I have been thinking about foster care/ adoption a lot recently.

3)Thursday!!! Has been for a long time.

    4)I have been duct-taped to a wall

5)I like the smiling on the street idea, or treating service people nicely.

6)I really like Mir at http://wouldashoulda.com/ and Christy at http://www.followingelias.com/. Mir's has been blogging for a really long time I think seven years so it has a lot of back-posts that you may not want to sort through, and Christy's is missing a chunk because she was blogging through parents magazine and they kept her posts when they removed the bloggers from their website. I occasionally blog.

    8)Yes. Yes. Yes.

9)I value the people who care.

What is your favorite holiday and why?

  7. 1. Married - for 17 years.

    2. No children, and don't want to have any either.

    3. Saturday! I play tennis every Saturday morning, which is a lot of fun.

    4. I love office supplies. I could spend hours wandering around Staples or Office Depot.

    5. I wish people wouldn't wash their windshields while driving down the highway. My windshield may not need washing, thank you very much.

    6. It's hard to choose a favorite, but here are two that I read every day:
    www.bitchypoo.com
    http://thebigmamablog.com

    7. Spending every summer at my aunt's cabin in north Georgia with my sister, my parents and my grandparents.

    8. I'm more of a lurker than a twitterer. Mostly I just read tweets and occasionally comment back to someone. Yes, I follow you.

    9. I value my iPad.

    10. Left.

  8. I LOVE This Is Not That Blog. It's hilarious! And that whole rumor thing? My life would be at least 50% easier without it. I mean, I'd still have to get out of bed and put on something other than yoga pants, so it wouldn't solve ALL my problems. But it would solve A LOT of them.

  9. I love the thing about your cat. Obviously you are aware of the invasion of felines from the bowels of hell. :)

And dressing up dogs? Just. NO. Don't do it. You are my new best friend.

    ReplyDelete
  10. If you are in high school, I am VERY glad you do not have children yet. ;) I promise your life will be easier for it.

I have a friend just like you: she'll say something that seems like it's in the middle of a conversation and won't understand right away why I have no idea what she's saying. It has made for some pretty amusing conversations.

    ReplyDelete
  11. Dancing when there is no music and smiling at people just to be nice? You, my friend, sound like a lot of fun to be around. :)

    ReplyDelete
  12. OH! Being nice to service people is SO IMPORTANT! I read a little saying somewhere (Pinterest?): If he takes you on a date and he's nice to you, but not nice to the waiter, he's not a nice guy. I think that's one of the places where character is revealed.

    ReplyDelete
  13. Office supplies! Sister used to practically collect pens. I love sticky notes. And colored sharpies. And hand sanitizer. AND NOTEBOOKS!

I think we will get along splendidly.

I always tend to use the kid/baby test. Does he interact with the kids? Is he willing to be around them? Does he treat them with respect and value their intelligence. Every time I liked a boy I invited him to work in the nursery with me.

But this seems so much better. Waiters/waitresses aare so much easier to find and have access to.

    ReplyDelete
  15. I also love office supplies! Mainly fresh notebooks and new pens, but the list could go on for quite a while. I always thought the best part of a new school year was wandering around Staples and looking at all of the highlighters and binder paper. It took me a while to realize that not everyone is as enthusiastic :)

    1. Are you married or single? Or even trying to be married or trying to be single?
I just passed the 5 year mark of marriage, and while my folks & his folks have both been married for 42 years, and my grandparents celebrated 68 years together this spring, I feel very accomplished about 5.

    2. Do you have children? If not, are you planning to? If yes, how many do you have and do you ever want to give one or more of them away? (I may or may not be in the market)
Oh! I'm so glad I waited until Tuesday to read this, because if I had read it on Sunday, I would have been frustrated at having to wait until today to answer, but because it is today, I don't have to wait. I have no children--yet! We're expecting our first in early April. There. I've told the Internet. Hooray!

    3. What is your favorite day of the week?
    Thursdays

    4. Tell me one obscure thing about you--something that makes you unique or special or different or weird.
I can lick my nose? It's not really that exciting or unusual. I'm 6' tall, which is sort of special, to me anyway.

    5. If you could change one small thing abut the world, what is it and why? Not like "world peace" or anything. More like "I wish every body always brushed their teeth" or "I would eliminate all dryer lint."
I'd make it okay for people to be whatever shape they were--not just whatever shape they wanted to be, but whatever shape they were RIGHT now would be 100% ok with everyone and no one would point and laugh and call people names when they wore bathing suits

    6. Who is your favorite blogger? (I'm not fishing for compliments here, I'm looking for new material and/or getting to know your taste) Also, do you blog and am I reading you? Because I should be.
I'm a big fan of Temerity Jane, which is how I found you in the first place. I blog over at http:beanonparade.blogspot.com

    7. Tell me your BEST childhood memory. OR? Tell me your EARLIEST childhood memory. Or both.
My earliest is of my 3rd birthday party. We had those ice cream cones from Baskin Robin's that were upside down & decorated like clowns, and mine was chocolate and I spilled some on my dress & my mom took me upstairs to change & I was sad because I really liked my ruffly pink dress. My BEST childhood memory is... oof, I dunno. I have lots of good memories of family & games & food (lots of my memories are about food... this may be more telling than I realize)

    8. Do you tweet? Do I follow you? Do you follow me?
    I do! You don't! I do now. I'm LEBean

    9. What do you value most? This is vague on purpose.
the ability to express myself. I think all of my good friends are still with me because we've been through some tough stuff together and come out ok, and I think that is largely in part to the grace of God and our ability to communicate well, or effectively, which sounds so very texty-booky and dumb, but we don't all speak the same language and so keeping friends & family in good relationships is about being able to talk about the stuff that matters--in my world at least.

    10. When you fold your hands, which thumb is closest to you, left or right?
Left--and my husband drives me crazy because even though he folds his hands the right...er... same way, h insists on having HIS thumb always be on top, no matter which hand he is holding... UNACCEPTABLE!!

  17. 1. Are you married or single? Or even trying to be married or trying to be single?
Single, and not even trying to be married. I’m a 20something with about a million years of grad school in front of me, so marriage is not on the cards for a while.

    2. Do you have children? If not, are you planning to? If yes, how many do you have and do you ever want to give one or more of them away? (I may or may not be in the market)
No children. Other people’s kids are quite cute, but it will be years before I want to the person that cute children come home to after having fun and eating sugar at Auntie’s house.

    3. What is your favorite day of the week?
Definitely Thursday. I can’t explain why, but it’s been my favorite day of the week since I was 5.

    4. Tell me one obscure thing about you--something that makes you unique or special or different or weird.
I always wanted to go by the nickname Elle as a kid, but since my first name isn’t very similar to it (my middle name is), the name rarely took (and when someone did call me Elle, I forgot to answer to it) so now I go by Elle online.

    5. If you could change one small thing abut the world, what is it and why? Not like "world peace" or anything. More like "I wish every body always brushed their teeth" or "I would eliminate all dryer lint."
Similar to a recent post of yours, I would love for people to actually follow common sense rules of the road. For example, speeding up your car to pass me in my lane, and then slowing down when you get back in front of me to what—teach me a lesson? Are you just assuming that I don’t have road rage? Not cool. Neither is slowing down for a yellow light 200 feet from the intersection during traffic, thereby ensuring that the 8 cars behind you who were ready to speed-demon their way through before the red are also stopped. Thanks but no thanks.

(Sorry I skipped a few because I have to get to work)

    8. Do you tweet? Do I follow you? Do you follow me?
I have a twitter, liquidlaughing, but I don’t tweet anything so no one follows me. Maybe one day I will believe that people actually want to hear the obscure thoughts in my head, but that day is not today. However, I do follow lots of people because I want to know obscure facts about their lives. :) Yes, I follow you.

    9. What do you value most? This is vague on purpose.
I value integrity…which is also kind of vague.

    10. When you fold your hands, which thumb is closest to you, left or right?
My right thumb. Yes, I’m right-handed. Putting my other thumb in front just seems strange, but I’ve never tried that until now :)

A question for you: I haven't followed you for long yet, so I don't know if dream job discussions are off the table. If not, what is your dream job, and if so, what is your favorite flavor of ice cream?

    ReplyDelete
  18. 1. Are you married or single? Or even trying to be married or trying to be single?
I have never been married, but I'm not averse to the idea. It would be nice to have someone make that kind of commitment to being with me, but it's probably never going to happen.

    2. Do you have children? If not, are you planning to? If yes, how many do you have and do you ever want to give one or more of them away? (I may or may not be in the market)
I do not have children. I do not ever plan to have children. I actually have a serious phobia of pregnancy. Like how some people get up on a chair and scream when they see a mouse? I do that if I think I might be pregnant. Only you can't get up on a chair away from your pregnancy. Thankfully I have never been pregnant, so I haven't ever had to totally freak out. I worked with kids for many years though (I like them, I just like giving them back) and saw so many kids in foster care and group homes and just being shuffled around that if I ever decide I need a kid in my life I will take in one of those kids. They need a home more than I need to be pregnant. Also then I can get an older kid and not do the diaper/screaming/bottles thing.

    3. What is your favorite day of the week?
Saturday. I don't have to get up early, and I don't have to go to bed early either.

    4. Tell me one obscure thing about you--something that makes you unique or special or different or weird.
I am essentially a collection of unique, special, different and weird. There's not really a lot about me that's average. I'm probably not at all like you think I am. Or I am just like you think I am and I can't see it. I am always self-analyzing. Also I have a really hard time writing the letter K legibly without conscious effort. I don't know why.

    5. If you could change one small thing abut the world, what is it and why? Not like "world peace" or anything. More like "I wish every body always brushed their teeth" or "I would eliminate all dryer lint."
I have to pick ONE? Okay, for now...homeopathy.

    6. Who is your favorite blogger? (I'm not fishing for compliments here, I'm looking for new material and/or getting to know your taste) Also, do you blog and am I reading you? Because I should be.
My favourite blog is really a collection of blogs: http://skepchick.org. I of course love the Bloggess, but so does everyone. I do have a blog: http://madfishmonger.livejournal.com

    7. Tell me your BEST childhood memory. OR? Tell me your EARLIEST childhood memory. Or both.
Earliest I was around 2, maybe not quite two. I remember being in the car with my gramma and then being at my aunt's house and sitting in a high chair. Best is being at my uncle's farm one of the years he was growing sunflowers. I was just short enough that I could walk along the rows with all the sunflowers over my head. I walked up and down the rows looking up at the sky through these gorgeous giant flowers.

    8. Do you tweet? Do I follow you? Do you follow me?
I do, and I don't really check who follows me, so you might be. @madfishmonger

    9. What do you value most? This is vague on purpose.
To crush your enemies, to see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentations of their women. Also I really value truth and reality. Reality is pretty awesome.

    10. When you fold your hands, which thumb is closest to you, left or right?
    Left

  20. Also, yes more Satan Kitteh, and my question for you is what is the last time you got into a conversation about something you're really passionate about? How do you express yourself when you're passionate?

  21. Ha! Yes, waiters are easier to find than babies, if you don't happen to live with any babies. I still think the Kid Test is valid and useful. I would just make him pass the Waiter Test before going through the trouble of finding a spare child.

  22. I am always sad when I realize that something that makes me so happy or excited is not something most other people care about. It should make me feel unique. It just kind of makes me lonely.

  23. CONGRATULATONS! That's awesome!!! I'm a big fan of the babies, myself.

And I totally get you about the ability to express yourself. It's so important and something I often take for granted. And I never feel like I know someone until we get past the surface chit-chat and really delve into the "big issues." You and I just may be kindred spirits. :)

  24. Integrity! Such a big thing! And something that has been long neglected. Especially in my line of work (which is unfortunately secret), integrity seems to be an endangered species.

    1. Are you married or single? Or even trying to be married or trying to be single?
Married for a year next month. So, married for 11 months. Basically, married.

    2. Do you have children? If not, are you planning to? If yes, how many do you have and do you ever want to give one or more of them away? (I may or may not be in the market)
I have a baby. If you catch me at the right moment, she's free.

    3. What is your favorite day of the week?
All my days are exactly the same.

    4. Tell me one obscure thing about you--something that makes you unique or special or different or weird.
I peaked in the fourth grade.

    5. If you could change one small thing abut the world, what is it and why? Not like "world peace" or anything. More like "I wish every body always brushed their teeth" or "I would eliminate all dryer lint."
I wish people didn't do things that relied on their knowledge that most people will just take it. Like, people who cut in front of you in line because they know that chances are, a polite and normal person isn't going to call them out. They bank on the fact that you'll just accept their brazen rudeness, and they get away with it, a lot.

    6. Who is your favorite blogger? (I'm not fishing for compliments here, I'm looking for new material and/or getting to know your taste) Also, do you blog and am I reading you? Because I should be.
I DON'T HAVE ONE I LIKE THEM ALL THE SAME.

    7. Tell me your BEST childhood memory. OR? Tell me your EARLIEST childhood memory. Or both.
I have a freakish memory that goes back way too far.

    8. Do you tweet? Do I follow you? Do you follow me?
I do. You do. I do.

    9. What do you value most? This is vague on purpose.
    My non-pregnant body.

    10. When you fold your hands, which thumb is closest to you, left or right?
Whichever is the opposite of what my husband does, because I like to get his dander up like that.

    Hello Random Stranger.
May I please borrow your child for the purpose of testing a future relationship I might have. In the course of events I don't foresee your child being harmed, but it might be a possibility, this is a test of a persons character. I however am trained in both adult and child CPR, and can reasonbly gaurentee you your child back alive. If you would kindly sign this wavier and hand me the child I have a relationship to test. 30. I'm commenting so late on this... but I've been gone/missing/mysteriously absent.

    1. Are you married or single? Or even trying to be married or trying to be single?
    Single. 100x single.

    2. Do you have children? If not, are you planning to? If yes, how many do you have and do you ever want to give one or more of them away? (I may or may not be in the market)
No kids. 2 nephews and 1 niece is by far enough. So... no.

    3. What is your favorite day of the week?
Saturday. I like being lazy and not having college classes.

    4. Tell me one obscure thing about you--something that makes you unique or special or different or weird.
Uhh. No middle finger? XD Lesbian ukulele player? Not sure what makes me unique.

    5. If you could change one small thing abut the world, what is it and why? Not like "world peace" or anything. More like "I wish every body always brushed their teeth" or "I would eliminate all dryer lint."
I would get rid of all the fish and frogs. Ugh.

    6. Who is your favorite blogger? (I'm not fishing for compliments here, I'm looking for new material and/or getting to know your taste) Also, do you blog and am I reading you? Because I should be.
I can't think of anyone to recommend that you don't already follow. =/ I do blog. I write Stop Me If You've Heard This One.

    7. Tell me your BEST childhood memory. OR? Tell me your EARLIEST childhood memory. Or both.
    I don't have a lot of childhood memories, I'm afraid. =/

    8. Do you tweet? Do I follow you? Do you follow me?
    I don't tweet.

    9. What do you value most? This is vague on purpose.
    My family. =]

    10. When you fold your hands, which thumb is closest to you, left or right?
Left. Again... no middle finger. XD
